Study Abroad Trip to Mexico City

Donation protected
¡Hola! We are Sophitia, Lakiyah, Damara, Krystal S, Krystal D, and Rudolph – undergraduates at Bowie State University, Maryland’s oldest Historically Black University. Each of us will be going overseas for the first time on a Study Abroad trip to Mexico City with Dr. Horacio Sierra in March.  You can find out more about each of us below.

In addition to enhancing our Spanish-language skills, we will immerse ourselves in Mexican culture and perform community service during our trip.

We’d love it if you could donate any amount to help us defray the costs of the trip. Airfare, lodging, transportation, passport, and miscellaneous expenses amount to $1,500 for each of us. We are paying tuition in addition to these costs and don't yet have a Study Abroad office at our university. Raised funds will be split evenly amongst us.

You can follow what we're learning in class and our travel adventures on our blog: https://bsustudyabroad616622937.wordpress.com/

About Us:
Lakiyah - English, Senior
"I've studied Spanish for the last two years and I'm looking forward to using my skills in the real world!"

Damara - Criminal Justice, Junior
"We hear so much about Mexico in the political world, but we hear so little from actual Mexicans. I want to see what life is like there - why people are proud of their country and why others leave Mexico for a better life in the U.S."

Rudolph - English, Senior
"This'll be my first time outside of the US, so I'm looking forward to being fully immersed in a culture different from our own."

Krystal S - Communications, Junior
"I hope to see Mexico through the eyes of the amazing people and walk away with a better understanding of such a rich culture. The scenery, the music, and the people - I want to experience it all."

Sophitia - Communications, Senior
"This trip is going to give me an international learning experience that will help me when I graduate and enter the globalized workfoce of mass communications."

Krystal D - English, Senior
"I can't wait to see the pyramids and tour the home where Frida Kahlo created her art."
