Nayabasti Shelter Project

Donation protected

Hi guys! I need some help!

On my current mission in Nepal, we visited Manahari Makawanpur, an area we have been dedicated to serve for the last 2 years. Our ministry and local Chepang pastors met to survey nearby monsoon related flood damage, and determin a plan to assist affected residents in getting life back to normal to the best of our abilities ahead of the approaching winter season.

We viewed two affected areas, one was very large,
(over 300 families! ) which would continue receiving assistance from government, international, and religious organizations. Another, much smaller community would not.

In the Naya Basti (New Village) area, off the road from Makawanpur Manahari, there wont be any assistance. Living on government land in the flood plane of the river is common for the very poor of Nepal. In this area, many have been affeced, and 5 families have lost their homes. One family had just finished building their house 3 months before and now only a washout is left.

Through prayer and discussion, our small committee determined to build 5 temporary shelters. Unlike current emergency tarp shelters, these shelters would be constructed using wood, bamboo, mud, tin sheets, tarps and other reclaimed materials before winter arrives. Likely, this type of shelter is similiar or better than some of the previous structures and will last well past the winter.

We determined a budget of $1,500, which includes labor, material, transportation, and crowdfunding and international money transfer fees. $200 of this amount has been provided by our ministry. We pray the rest will be met through additional fundraising efforts.

We intend to gather the funds and return to Makawanpur in 2-3 weeks, relying on our team of pastors, church leaders, and friends to lend helping hands in reconstruction. Our intent is to use a relatively small amount of money and work together as a body to serve these flood victims.

Ive heard it said that, If I can accomplish my dreams on my own strength, my dream is too small...but this isnt my dream, its a vision to meet the real life basic needs of families in distress, hoping for greatness being rooted in Our Father in Heaven and accomplished in community as the Body of Christ.
