BSD Leaping Forward!

The Brattleboro School of Dance is leaping into the new year!

A grande jete is a beautiful and powerful jump. To achieve its most elegant expression, we gather momentum and then burst forth with energy. We consolidate our weight, grounding ourselves in plie, and then we hit the air feeling free and unstoppable. Legs and feet extended, arms outstretched, head high, as we bridge the gap between where we came from and where we are going. We project with our eyes and heart up and forward!

The Brattleboro School of Dance has momentum from the sustaining drive and passion of the community over the past 45 years. We are inviting the community to join us in packing and paying respects to our old space as we prepare to move to 181 Main Street. When we land we will celebrate our 45th year anniversary of providing exceptional dance education!

In this transitional time, our school will look a bit different. We will be moving out of our High Street location in February, but we can't move into our new spot until June! During the first semester of 2021, we will be offering new and exciting ways to engage with dance. From online and in-person classes to special workshops, events, and performances, we are overjoyed to continue to deepen our engagement with you all through our beloved art form.

Starting in June 2021 we will begin classes in a beautiful and historic building filled with fellow artists! Our brand-new space, made especially for us through the generous support and vision of Sara Coffey and Dave Snyder, will include two large studios, and one small studio, all at street level! We will enjoy such modern comforts as AC in the summer and consistent heat in the winter, a sophisticated and powerful HVAC system, and beautiful skylights in every room. We will leap, pirouette, and roll, on new sprung dance floors. An updated changing room design will provide more egalitarian access to dancers and their families. A storage facility in the basement will allow us to keep our costumes close at hand, and our very own designated display window will help us engage with the community in new ways! Oh, and did we mention it is ALL ADA accessible? Needless to say, we are REALLY excited for our new home.

We will truly miss our High Street location. Many of our students have grown up at the studio and call it a second home. Many memories have been made, dancers have found their truest voice, and let their most fabulous selves shine. It is a time to reflect and appreciate all that we love about it - even the things that annoy us like heat pipes clanging loudly, splintery barres, and that one creaky spot in studio 1!

So, please join us in our exciting leap!
