Brynn's Medical Fund

Donation protected
We are hoping to raise money for my cousin’s daughter, Brynn, who just celebrated her 6th birthday on January 5th. Brynn is currently in Kindergarten and loves dancing, swimming, Disney princesses and funny snapchat filters. Her smile and laugh are contagious and she has proven to be both strong and a fighter when faced with medical issues beyond her control. Here is Brynn’s story…

This past August, Brynn started having problems and pain with her right leg. After a few doctor visits, an orthopedic doctor at Children's Hospital diagnosed her with a rare childhood condition known as Perthes Disease. It is a condition that affects the hip and occurs when the blood supply to the rounded head of the femur (thighbone) is temporarily disrupted. Without an adequate blood supply, the bone cells die; this is a process called avascular necrosis. After the bone dies, it begins to deteriorate. The course of treatment at first was to put Brynn in a wheelchair and monitor her condition. In some cases, the bone deteriorates and re-forms with little complication while in others, more intervention is necessary. Brynn was able to be out of the chair for a short time, but it was clear her condition was progressing. Her doctor at Children's Hospital felt that she needed to have surgery as soon as possible. The surgery is scheduled for January 8th. The surgical procedure for treating her case is known as osteotomy, where the femur is cut and repositioned to keep the femoral head snug within the acetabulum. This alignment is kept in place with screws and plates. After the surgery, an A-brace will be placed on her legs to help immobilize her and hold the head of the thigh bone deep within the hip socket in order to help her heal properly. She will be in a wheelchair for 6-8 weeks and will require years of physical therapy. We are asking for donations to help with day-to-day expenses, as our cousin Megan, is off on an unpaid FMLA leave for months. These donations will help with their medical expenses, physical therapy and any care Brynn may need. If you are unable to donate monetarily, we please ask you to pray for Brynn and her family as they have a long road ahead of them.
