I hope the title of this fund makes people laugh. If you know me you know I like to laugh. Cancer is no laughing matter. In October 2017 a couple things happened. After having a colonoscopy/CAT scan, I was told I had a rare carcinoid tumor in my colon and would need to meet with doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston (MGH). One week before this meeting, I broke my arm at work. My arm is healing from a shattered bone and I now have a plate in my arm. I am still doing physical therapy at this time to get back to my old self.
I went back to work after 3 weeks but as of November 23, 2017, have not worked due to my cancer diagnosis. After my meeting with Dr. Cusack on November 13, 2017 (my birthday), I was told I would need an operation to remove the carcinoid tumor in my colon but not before I had a course of radiation and chemotherapy at MGH.
I got up at 3 am each weekday, hopped the commuter rail to South Station and then the Red Line for a couple stops. I took the train for 7 weeks at 5 days a week from Nov. 29th until Jan.10, 2018 and occasionally got car rides into Boston to get to MGH for 7 AM.
In January I had a follow-up CAT scan and MRI from which it was discovered that I had blood clots in my lungs and my leg. I spent two days at Marlborough Hospital getting blood thinner medications that I have been taking ever since.
On March 5, I had an Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filter placement, because of the clots and on March 21st, I will undergo a complete colostomy. I will hopefully be rid of cancer and any other infected parts but I will have to wear a colostomy bag for the rest of my life.
I am asking friends and relatives to help out by donating to this GoFundMe so that I can pay for hospital bills and medical supplies I will need going forward. My humor has helped me get this far and I hope to share some laughs with all of you for many years to come.
