We are Laura and Bryan Pew, and it is our dream to finally be parents!
We have been trying to have a baby for a little over 3 years. Laura always knew that she would likely require medical assistance due to a diagnosis of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Endometriosis, but desperately wanted to try anyway. During those 3 years, we have spent thousands of dollars and Laura has had to go through numerous fertility treatments, hormone therapy, fertility procedures, and even a surgery. In the end, we still haven't been successful. We were at a crossroads and needed to make a decision on which direction we would go moving forward - either in-vitro fertilization, or adoption - both are very expensive ($25,000 and up), and both have many pros and cons. As a couple wanting a baby, it is nearly impossible to make the decision to stop fertility treatments. We needed to grieve a baby that was never even conceived, and wrap our hearts around the idea of a baby conceived in our hearts instead. There truly are no words to describe how this journey has changed us, physically and spiritually. We had to take a leap of faith and put the decision in God's hands, and prayed that God would somehow give us a big neon sign as to which way to go.
We stopped praying to be able to get pregnant, and started praying for our baby in general - whether that baby would be carried by Laura, or another mother, but just for a healthy baby to love and raise. We decided to take a few months off to give Laura's body a chance to heal from all the fertility treatments, and decided that January was a good time to move forward with whatever we felt was meant for us to do.
Then, right around Christmas, we got a call about a lady wanting to place her baby for adoption, and wondered if we would want to adopt! Hello neon sign!! So, to make a long story short, we are stepping out on faith that this is God's plan for us, and cannot WAIT to finally become parents!! The birth mom is about half-way through her pregnancy, so we have to move really quick with legal proceedings and state-mandated checks and processes (a home-study). We are SO lucky and blessed that this is happening the way that only God can orchestrate...since the birth mom is on board to place with us already, we are able to use a family lawyer instead of going through the big adoption agencies/attorneys, so it is a fraction of what the usual cost would be for a private adoption.
We are asking for help in raising $4,000 to make our dream a reality and bring our baby home! A little over half of that cost is due as soon as possible in order to get the ball rolling on legal proceedings, and the rest will be due at various points through the next few months. I know it is a lot to ask, and we wouldn't even ask if we didn't truly believe that this is our calling! Any amount helps...$5, $50, $100...anything! If you aren't able to donate, we could also use a lot of PRAYER from our friends and family through this process. And please, pray for the birth mom as well...I can't imagine how it would feel to make the decision to place your baby for adoption. It has to be the hardest choice to make, and we will be eternally grateful to her for it.
