Bryan Gamber's Cancer Journey

Donation protected
We are the daughters of Bryan & Susie Gamber. My name is Marsha, and my sister's name is Amy.

About three weeks ago, we were told that Dad had liver cancer. Unfortunately, on September 8th--our fears were confirmed. It's been a very emotional journey so far. The doctor believes the cause of the cancer is scoliosis of the liver. Dad was never a drinker (altho this is what we have heard many times in the past couple of days "How much have you drank?"). The liver has so much damage that it caused cancer to grow.

Dad is a possible candidate for a liver transplant. We filled out an application, and it's being sent to Washington, DC, for the transplant team to review. If they accept him, we will have to go to Madison, Wisconsin, for an initial consultation and the tests that are ordered. There will be much traveling back and forth when it gets to the point.

In the meantime, Dad will be starting chemotherapy on September 16th to try and destroy the tumor on his liver. They will go through his vein to the spot on the liver, shoot the drug in, and block it off to destroy it. He will return in a month for another scan to see if the cancer is gone. If not, they will do another treatment.

We are trying to fundraise some money to help with travel expenses, food expenses, and bills being mom won't be able to work during this time. Any small or large amount will be greatly appreciated.

My dad has always been a fighter and will continue fighting this battle. All prayers are appreciated. Thanks so much for your help.

Update: 10\9\22

Dad will be going back to the doctor on the 19th for another liver scan. We are hoping that the chemo is doing its job and "starving the tumor" causing it to shrink. Dad hasn't had many side effects from chemo. He is doing pretty well overall. We appreciate all the gifts and prayers sent. Will update again soon as we know more information.

Update 1/11/2023

So much has happened in the last 3 months. Dad's latest scan in November had shown signs of growth. He goes back to the doctor for his cancer appt on the 23rd\24th. So we're hoping we have some better news.

On December 29th, Dad slipped on the ice and fell and broke his femur. He was taken to Sioux Falls for surgery on the 30th. They had to put in a rod and pins. The pressure on the leg was so bad that when the doc had cut the leg, the muscle popped out of the skin. They had to release the pressure in the muscle so it wouldnt get damaged or eventually stop working all together. He had a total of 3 surgeries to repair everything. He is now in a nursing home for a few weeks for rehabilitation. He has a long road to recovery ahead of him. All thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.

Thanks
