Support Joshua's Journey to Wellness

Joshua is an 8 year old boy with the drive to exceed all expectations. At 3 weeks old, he was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder, Phelan McDermid Syndrome or 22q13. With this diagnosis he was expected to have delayed or absent speech, significant delays in mobility, low muscle tone, sensitivity to touch and sound and a dangerously high pain threshold. His parents were told that he would never walk, talk or sleep well, and would live with difficulty for the rest of his life.  So they prayed.

A few months later, Joshua's parents brought him to the Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential (IAHP) in Pennsylvania. Since beginning an intensive, home-based treatment program, he has made huge progress. Over the last 8 years, Joshua has overcome the barriers to holding his head up independently, sitting up independently, standing, walking on all surfaces, assisted self-feeding, digesting a variety of foods, reading, math, and communicating with assistance.

This little fighter wants to be well and continually inspires those around him to join his journey and never lose hope in overcoming their own obstacles. He may not speak clearly, yet, but his radiant smile and bright eyes speak volumes of encouragement and love.

Realizing that his journey is far from done, the family is seeking help to meet his on-going treatment needs that are not covered by insurance. This includes bi-annual revisits to IAHP, out-of-pocket medical expenses, oxygen treatments, safe sleeping environment, specialized nutritional needs and supplements.
