Randy Riddle Medical Fund

On May 14, less than two months shy of his 35th birthday, Randy had emergency, exploratory surgery to determine the cause of extreme pain and swelling he was having. The surgeon immediately found a tumor. A week later, he was told that pathology reports had come back positive for testicular cancer. There was concern that it had spread to the lymph and lungs. Living in rural Utah presented itself with little options for treatment. He would have to travel for help. Randy sought the expertise of the doctors at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, UT, a three-hour drive from home. Although the initial prognosis looked very promising, just two blood tests later, they confirmed that, in fact, the cancer was not gone, but had spread through the lymph in his abdomen. He is now in stage 2A. He begins nine weeks of chemotherapy on Monday, July 21st. He and Barbara, his wife, are trying to remain positive in the wake of the uncertain road ahead.

This results in a significant financial burden to the family with three small children where Randy is the sole provider as a juvenile probation officer. No one battling cancer should have to worry about the financial impact of trying to spare the life of the only bread-winner in their home. The lofty goal of $15,000 will pay for the exorbitant insurance out-of-pocket costs of $12,500 as well as gas and food while traveling. Randy and Barbara will stay with a family member while he goes for treatment to eliminate lodging expenses.
