Brutal Attack on Loving Father, Grandad & Husband.

Donation protected

These are pictures of my lovely father-in-law who was viciously attacked on 3/05/19 in Marondera, Zimbabwe.

Ron visits Zimbabwe for a few weeks every year with his wife, Christina, to check on her family's farm and to help with any work that needs doing. On this occasion, a few days before they were due to leave, Ron was attacked and left for dead outside the family home. At approximately 2am, Ron heard a lot of noise coming from outside his window; consequently, he went to check where it was coming from and whether the animals (cattle/sheep/chickens) needed tending to. After stepping outside, Ron was set upon by two men. They beat Ron to the ground, and also attacked his wife when she tried to help him.

Ron is now lying in a clinic in Harare with a fractured skull, brain swelling, a shattered eardrum, missing teeth, a broken jaw, fractured arms and intracranial pressure which is getting worse.

My father-in-law is a kind, selfless person who, in no way, deserves this amount of pain. Additionally, he's suffering from shock which has caused him to stop eating, drinking and talking.

Their stay in Zimbabwe was covered by medical insurance, but the visit was unexpectedly prolonged by a few days due to having to care for a family member for longer so the insurance expired. As two elderly people travelling alone, the expiration date of their insurance wasn't something that they remembered. The results are horrific, life-changing and completely undeserved.

Ron needs urgent care. The clinic he is in has a lack of food, running water, very little resources and no specially trained doctors or neurosurgeons. He hasn't had a CT scan yet to assess the damage to his brain and his wife has to travel everyday to fetch the painkillers and medication that he needs from another clinic because they don't have it stocked where he is.

We are desperate to get Ron some better care so that he can improve enough to be brought home. We are reaching out for help as it's already cost both our families £3000 just for the deposit for the hospital where Ron needs to be - an ambulance to transport Ron, and further treatment will require well over £5000.

Any donations will be greatly appreciated. Ron is a very strong, independent man who owned a grocery business for a number of years and has always been self-sufficient. It breaks our hearts to see him like this; however, I know that with the right care, Ron will pull through.
