Hi I'm Mikey. Bruce is my 6month old Cane Corso puppy, and best friend of my 5 year old daughter Poppy.
I am trying to raise £2300 to pay for resurgery for both of Bruce's eyes after his previous cherry eye (Third eye lid) surgery has failed now on both eyes.
On December 2nd I took on bruce as a 14 week old as he had developed cherry eye in one eye and the previous owner was concerned about the size he would get to. The second picture is the first time I took him home, and as you see he only had cherry eye in one eye at this point.
The first day we had him we took him to be registered at the vets and booked him in for a consultation about surgery for his left eye - Within 3days of him living with us his right eye also developed cherry eye. So by the time the consultation came along we were quoted £1300 for both eyes; as well as further medicine and appointments needed. Being that he came to us with cherry eye pre-existing we did not have an opportunity to get insurance for him, and it wouldn't have covered this.
We managed to borrow money in order to bring the surgery forward but now need to pay the borrowed money back, which was kindly lent by a family member who needs the money back, paying this back and having to repay for new surgery is just not possible financially for us.
Our vet has been very remorseful of the failed surgery and gave us a lot of free appointments to keep tabs on us and make sure that Bruce had the best possiblity of a good outcome and to avoid infections; but he has advised that the first eye had failed (the stitches had a reaction with his eye allowing the tear duct to push back out).
This has now happened in the second eye too.
At our last consultation with the vet he advised that it wouldn't be fair for him to reoperate on already damaged eyes and that he should instead refer us to a specialist eye vet at paragon referrals.
I agree that this is the best thing for Bruce's eyes; but sadly it comes at a big cost
The reason I am asking for help;
I had been planning to raise this money and scrape together my wages to figure out how to pay for his surgery some how but it was already going to be very tight.
On Saturday 22nd Feb I set off to take Bruce for a walk at a nature reserve nearby; 1/2 way there my car started to smoke from the engine and stopped working.
After an hour or so of being stranded on the side of the road unable to get the car to start my girlfriend rang me to say her waters broke; I arranged help to abandon my car and get back to my partner and we got to the hospital at 19:12 - which was lucky because by 19:25 we were holding our baby girl named Daisy.
All of this (broken car, baby coming early, SPP for 2 weeks of next payday, paying back previous surgery) means that we are really going to struggle to find the money as soon as he really needs.
Thankyou to anybody who has read this far i feel very daft for essentially begging for help but I don't have any other option. I just want what is best for Bruce and i think that means the surgery happening as soon as possible with the best surgeons and sadly that means I have to ask for help to be able to afford it right now and Thank-you to anyone who donates.
Sorry if I sound like I'm talking nonsense, I've never had to write anything like this before.
