Rick Berrys Funeral Costs

This GoFundMe is a donations page for the funerary expenses of Richard Jules Berry (6/2/1952—11/5/15), beloved father of two children and man of many friends and talents. Rick to his friends, was born in New Jersey but came to eastern North Carolina as a young draftee into the United States Marine Corps during the War in Vietnam. However, active deployments ceased during his service and did not re-enlist. Rather, Rick had found an excellent community in the area, a place for his magnetic personality and cunning wit to flourish, and set about making a name for himself. Rick went on to own and run night clubs by the beach, a successful pawn shop, and even became a regular contributor to local radio as host of the morning Swap Shop show. In his later years, Rick took a keen interest in political theory and began to research extensively the complex maze of legal bureaucracy that governs the United States. This study led him to begin experimenting with legal recourse against the IRS, whom Rick believed to be making false claims of foreclosure on the home he had lived in since he was a young Marine. Rick successfully fought the IRS to a standstill, though the demands it took on his finances and legal 'rights' was without measure.

Richard Jules Berry died November 5th, at 1:57 a.m. while being transitioned from his holding cell in Wake County to an ambulance. As per the laws and statues protecting the rights of citizens incarcerated by the State of North Carolina, Rick was listed as a 'DNR' (Do Not Resuscitate) and therefore will not be given a formal autopsy. A specific cause of death is unknown, but is believed to have occurred from poor health recuperation from several highly invasive surgeries to stabilize the many medical conditions afflicting Rick during his incarceration by the State. Rick was serving sentences related to a domestic event in which he attempted to end his own life, but police intervention was able to prevent his suicide. However, firearms were discharged in the intervention and a police officer was wounded in the hand. A jury of his peers found Rick to be liable and indeed guilty of the multiple counts against him, which included Aggravated Assault with a Firearm and Use of Firearm on a Police Officer.

Funds gathered will be used for the settling of the expenses related to his cremation and fees from the State pursuant to such disposal. In addition, funds will be used by his children to travel to his many friends and family across North Carolina and the country to give grieving kin mementos of his remains. No donation must be considered too small to help, and your author begs your pardon for the imposition.
