This spring break I have the amazing opportunity to travel to Guatemala to provide medical care to the people of Zacapa. The program I am going with is highly competitive, and I am very honored to have been selected to go. WSU is pairing up with the non-profit organization Hearts in Motion, whose mission is to provide care and medical treatment for children, families, and communities throughout Central and South America. The trip will consist of medical and dental clinics, construction projects, and working at a local orphanage. By teaming up with surgeons, dentists, and other medical professionals, our group will perform cleft pallate/lip reconstructions, pull teeth, and provide other necessary care and resources.
I will begin Nursing school next fall at WSU Spokane, which has been a dream of mine for a long time. This experience will be very beneficial to my future as a nurse. As many of you know, over the past 10 years I have participated in numerous mission trips to Mexico to visit Rancho Milagro orphanage and build houses in a nearby poverty-stricken neighborhood. My time spent serving in Mexico has been life changing. I have always hoped for an opportunity to combine my passions of nursing & serving, and this trip will be the perfect chance to do so!
The trip takes place March 8th-18th, 2018, and our team consists of 25 WSU students and about 75 other medical staff. I am responsible for a trip cost of $2500 which will go toward medical supplies, construction projects, transportation and lodging. If it's on your heart, I would love for you to join me in this opportunity by supporting me with prayer and/or a financial contribution! Any support you have to offer will be greatly appreciated! I cannot wait to come back and share what I learned and how I grew from this trip with all of you!
