Update (10/29):
We recently launched our website and unveiled our Ambassadors! Head over to www.BrownFolksFishing.com to meet the team. Since then, we've been presented with the opportunity to develop a pledge-based initiative called Angling For All that will advance tangible and measurable growth in diversity, equity, and inclusion across all levels of the fishing industry. We are also in the process of acquiring fiscal sponsorship, which will give us the ability to apply for grants to further support our work. Given these incredible developments, we've decided to pursue an ambitious stretch goal of $2500 which will give our team some added capacity to pursue these opportunities.

Our Story
Brown Folks Fishing  cultivates the visibility, representation, and inclusion of people of color in fishing and its industry. It was launched earlier this year on Instagram  as both a space to build community and a movement to expand access. We work at the intersection of race, media, and fishing as a gateway to conservation. Brown Folks Fishing is also a member of the Diversity Outdoors  coalition.

Our movement is led by an all-volunteer team of anglers of color whose professional backgrounds include: strategic marketing, PR and communications, photography, documentary, outdoors industry, wilderness guides, education, culinary arts, visual and digital art, and conservation. Ambassadors lead initiatives at local and national levels. Our initiatives include a scholarship fund, gear libraries, fish alongs, and educational how-to events throughout the US where our ambassadors are located. We work with local and national non-profit organizations to ensure that all of our events integrate conservation components and provide information on how folks can get involved locally.

Brown Folks Fishing is entirely run by volunteers. The funds raised will help to cover basic organizational expenses associated with events (such as tackle, food, and transportation) and outreach. We are working with partners to source gear for our how-to events, and a portion of the funds will be used to cover the costs of additional gear needed as well as maintenance. Part of the money raised will be devoted to starting our scholarship fund. The fund is designed to cover license and gear costs to new anglers who would like to learn how to fish and through the process, engage in local conservation projects. With your support and contributions, we'll be able to grow our capacity and create more opportunities for anglers of color across the US.

UPDATE (9/29):
We made our initial goal of $750! Thank you to everyone who donated and helped spread the word. We're going for our next stretch goal, which will allow us to expand our scholarship fund, add additional events in 2019, and expand our capacity for supporting local conservation projects. Thank you for believing in our mission and joining us on this journey.
