Brooklyn BLSA Needs Help!
Dear Friends and Family,
Thank you, thank you, thank you! With your help, were were able to send two teams to Albany for this year's Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition (TMMTC). Both of our teams advanced to the quarter finals, and both teams finished in the top 8.
Our phenomenal coaches were able to pay the competition expenses out of pocket with the knowledge that some of their expenses would be subsidized trough the money raised on this site. Since the coaches are all students, they could not have charged the travel and lodging expenses to their credit cards without your generosity.
Before we close down this site and withdraw the funds to reimburse the coaches, we would like to make one final push to get closer to our fundraising goal. As it stands, our coaches will only receive a partial refund. With more support, we can give our coaches a larger refund and we can ensure that future teams are not starting from $0. Please share this site and the story of our success to your friends and family members. Thank you again for your generosity and support. We truly could not have done it without you!
Sincerely,
Sylvester Yavana
Brooklyn Law School
TMMTC Coordinator

Brooklyn Law School Black Law
Students Association (BLSA) Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition
Providing an
Opportunity for Students to Gain Valuable Advocacy Skills
The Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition (TMMTC) is a
coveted opportunity for Black Law Student Association (BLSA) members across the
country to gain advocacy training. One of the signature annual activities of
the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA), hundreds of law students
from across the country compete in six regional competitions, with the hopes of
winning the final competition held as part of the NBLSA National Convention.
Members of the Brooklyn Law School BLSA chapter have
benefited from the competition as invaluable preparation for both try outs for
the prestigious Brooklyn Law School Moot Court Honor Society, and careers in
litigation. Over the last two years of competition alone, one of our student
competitors received the Best Oral Advocate Award, and last year, seven of our eight
TMMTC competitors attained sought-after membership in the Brooklyn Law School
Moot Court Honor Society, where they will continue to hone their advocacy
skills. This cohort represents one of the largest classes of Brooklyn BLSA
members, in the history of the organization, to achieve this accolade.
The 2014 Northeast Regional TMMTC will be held in Albany,
New York.
OUR NEED:
Unfortunately, Brooklyn Law School will no longer be
contributing resources to send our student-advocates to this competition. As a
result, Brooklyn Law School's BLSA chapter is aiming to independently fundraise
to send two teams to compete in the 2014 TMMTC to secure for our members what
past competitors have rated as one of the most rewarding experiences of their
law school career.
It costs approximately $2,500.00 (from previous year's
calculations) to send each team of four student competitors to the competition,
including registration, travel and hotel accommodations.
Thus, we are aiming to raise $5,000.00 for this year's
competition. Any additional funds raised will go towards next year's
competition.
HERE'S HOW YOU CAN
HELP:
Please help us prepare the next generation of legal
advocates by making a contribution to send our students to this competition. Our
suggested levels of contribution are:
Colleague--$50
Ally--$100
Friend--$200
Supporter--$500
Champion--$1,000
However, any
contribution, great or small, is
welcome and helps us reach our goal. Simply put, we need you. Every journey begins with a step and with your support
we can make it all the way to Albany for the 2014 Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial
Competition!
Join us as we continue our legacy of producing high quality,
skilled future attorneys and scholars.
