Brooke’s Sensory and development Garden

Hi there, thank you for visiting Brooke’s fundraising page. I am asking for help to create a safe sensory garden at home for Brooke to enjoy, play safely and that can aid her physical and cognitive development. The pandemic and her medical vulnerability means it isn’t safe for her to use the local playground or park. Her high anxiety in crowds and in unfamiliar environments has always been distressing for her she will often shout, cry, bite her hand or pull her hair. Strangers do not understand and stare as she expresses her unhappiness and anxiety takes over.

Seven years ago, 2nd of May 2014 I birthed a beautiful daughter her Dad named her Brooke Porsha Stewart. At 9 months old Brooke was diagnosed with Global Development Delay this news turned our word upside down. Sometimes I wonder why our family, why us but her smile alone and her strength gives us strength. Her willingness and motivation to achieve is amazing to watch. The milestones she has achieved are incredible; she can now sit independently, can crawl, is able to communicate her needs by making sounds and using gestures/body language. Brooke expresses her emotions as much as she can, she is funny and has the loviest personality - she is also delightfully stubborn.

This journey has had many ups and downs and has made me question myself and who I am as a person. My dream is that even if she cannot walk independently I pray that she will one day be able to talk. I pray that her brain is able to function efficiently enough that she can verbalise her needs and she can do basic things for herself, be able to interact with people and have friends. We know that over Brooke’s life time she will require a lot of targeted care and this will undoubtedly cost money.
