Brooke's One Year in Haiti

Hope in hopelessness

This last year has been a whirlwind of messy, beautiful, God-blessed craziness. I am SO unspeakably thankful for those of you who prayed for me while I was in Haiti this summer (it was NEEDED), and so grateful for every single cent you all blessed me with. My five weeks in Haiti was better than I could have ever imagined and, to be honest, I could turn this entire letter into one huge story about my summer. As I grew in my relationship with God (man, he is almost tangible in this foreign place), I was blessed in so many ways . I came to genuinely love these people, with the rawest earthly love I’ve ever felt. I fell in love with the kids who greeted me at our gates every morning, our neighbors who could play dominoes with us for hours, the Haitian family who welcomed me into their arms as their own family, the children who would leap into my arms and kiss me on the cheek without hesitation. The heat, cold showers, hand washing my clothes, the interesting places I got to pee (I made a couple pig friends), the language, the mountain view from our home, the rice and beans and rice and beans…and rice and beans. I fell in love with it all.

But I was brokenhearted. There were nights that I fell asleep crying out to God because of the injustices that gripped my heart and surrounded me daily in Haiti. I heard of people who had died because of fevers that could have decreased easily with Advil. A boy my age came up to our gates one day-if you could only have seen the pain in his face -his foot infected three times the size. He had lost all feeling and blood flow going up his leg, and if he wouldn’t have found me that day in a cry for help, he would have lost that leg. His foot got infected by a tiny cut on the bottom of his foot..which could have easily healed with Neosporin and a Bandaid. Holding and loving on a beautiful, malnourished little girl, day after day, with snot running down her face-then finding out she has HIV. Then, finding out that a man from Brazil came to a needy mother with seven children (whom we all love), and now pregnant again, asking to buy her two oldest daughters and unborn baby. Human trafficking is not a widely known injustice in Haiti.

This is why God is calling me to go back. Yes, I could go back because I LOVE Haiti and I LOVE our organization, CPR-3, but I am going back for one purpose only- because God has called me there. I am broken to be in Haiti. So, I am absolutely rejoiced to share that I will be returning to Haiti, with the departure goal of May 2015, for one year.

CPR-3 is an organization breathing life and hope into Haiti- a spiritually rich, but hopeless place. Half of Haiti’s population lives on less than $1 a day and 80% of the country lives on less than $2 a day. Some of the few things CPR-3 does in Haiti is help to provide jobs, run a child sponsorship program, the Stop Doing Wrong program where we are educating and doing awareness of child trafficking,  and the WaSH Project-which is where water filtration systems and latrines are being built in different villages. CPR-3, although an organization with many different initiatives, has one goal- to raise up the name of Jesus. My year will be spent in many different roles, some of which I don’t even know yet.  Undoubtedly though; I will be building relationships and lifting up our Haitian partner churches and pastors. Our physical presence in Haiti matters. My presence, although I feel completely unequipped at times, matters. In a country where all they have is each other, relationships matter. And that is why I am feeling pulled to go back, to continue the relationships that were formed over the summer.

I am writing to you now for two game changing requests. Firstly, the request for prayers throughout this entire journey. If you would like to be a part of an email list as a prayer partner for me, I would love if you e-mailed me so I could attach you to this list! Prayer is everything, everything. Secondly, I would like ask for financial support if you are able. My goal is to raise $20,000 by April. And this is where you can take part of what is going on in Haiti through me.

There are two routes you can take if you are feeling pulled to donate towards my $20,000 goal.
1.) if you plan on sending a one time gift, donate through this site or send a check to the  Pennsylvania address below. Better yet, donate through the CPR-3 website (this site takes out a certain percentage of all donations, CPR-3s site does not!!)
2.) The second option, that is so much harder to ask of, is to sign up to be a monthly donation partner with me. THIS could quickly get my funds raised for my year. This option could be easier or harder for some to chose, but this really gives an opportunity to sponsor me while I’m actually on the ground in Haiti. If for one year,

Two people donated $100 a month

Ten people donated $50 a month

Twenty people donated $20 a month

Thirty people donated $15 a month

Thirty five people donated $10 a month

…$20,000+ would be raised. This could be huge, and it would be such a joy to have so many of you invested in CPR-3, what is going on in Haiti and a part of the lives that are being changed daily. If you are feeling drawn to partner monthly with me, go to cpr-3/give.com . Easily, you can chose how long you would like to partner with me and how much you would like to give each month.  When you click on “partner support” you will be able to choose my name. You can go on the website to donate one time gifts as well (instead of sending in a check)! Whichever way suits you best. If you have any questions AT ALL, please feel free to e-mail or call me!

There is hope and that hope starts with you.
Thank you for you.

With SO much love,

Brooke E. Angle
