Brock and Caroline are long haul truck drivers that have been driving as a team and married for over 20 years.
In May Brock went to the doctor's for his mandatory DOT (Department of Transportation) physical. During his physical, a heart abnormality was found.
On September 18, Brock had a heart catheterization and they found that he needed a double bypass and a valve replacement immediately.
On Sept 27th Brock had a successful open-heart surgery.
However on October 13th Brock went back to hospital due to a staff infection. He was sent home the next day with antibiotics.
On Oct 27 he found puss oozing out of his chest and returned back to the hospital. He still had a staff infection that now was affecting his sugar levels that resulted in him coding.
Then on Oct 29th he coded again as the staff infection attacked his heart function and in order to save his life he was rushed to emergency surgery for an external pacemaker. After the pacemaker surgery, the staff infection then shut down the function of his kidneys. He had gained 30 pounds of fluid overnight.
Finally on November 20th after Brock was stable he had a permanent pacemaker put in.
On November 27th he will be transferred to a rehab facility for a minimum of three to four weeks due to the open incision in his chest and administering of antibiotics for the staff infection.
Once he is released from the rehab facility he will be unable to drive for an additional 3-6 months according to the DOT regulations and will need approval from his employer as well.
Due to the medical issues Brock has had, Brock and Caroline have been off work for almost four months with a possibility of Brock not returning to work until the Spring or Summer 2018.
We are raising funds to help supplement their income for the four months they have been off as well as the additional 3-6 months Brock will be recovering at home.
