Broadstairs Food Festival

The Broadstairs Food Festival needs your help!

Many of you already know the Broadstairs Food Festival -  and have been enjoying the event since its outset in 2009. This  much-loved food  and drink festival was due to take place Easter and October 2020.

Staged in the heart of picturesque Broadstairs, on the coast of Kent, the festival has become embedded in the county’s event calendar.   Our mission has been to support local and  Kent traders so we pride ourselves that 90% of our exhibitors  are from within the county.

We would have loved to stage the events in 2020 - but Covid 19 has knocked our plans out the window, forcing the cancellation of both events.

The steps we would need to put in place to ensure distancing and hygiene measures, coupled with the loss of business sponsorship, means the festival is simply not financially viable.

Broadstairs Food Festival is self-funded and now more than ever, donations are an important source of income.  As a not-for-profit organisation, our resources are slim and our reserves even slimmer.  Cancellation of both the 2020 events will have a massive impact on our ability to cover core costs.

If you have enjoyed visiting or exhibiting at the festival, your support has been greatly appreciated. Today, more than ever, we need that support.

To help us get through this difficult year,  we have set up a GoFundMe campaign.
A little from you means a lot to us as every pound is valuable!

If you are interested in supporting the festival in some way, please use the link   below to read more of our campaign and learn how you  might be able to assist.

How do we support the area?
Whenever possible, we have always partnered with and used local suppliers, and we are determined that they will be paid for all the work they’ve done, or see the aims of their partnerships come to fruition.

To this end, and to try to mitigate future jeopardy, we have set up this GoFundMe to help with the postponement/rearrangement of this festival, and the birth of the next.

Every single penny raised will go to paying people and getting our house in order so that we may again present something that everyone in Broadstairs can be proud of, and that everyone involved will enjoy.

Supporters who donate £50 or more to this fund will all be thanked in the future programme, and anyone giving £100 or more will be invited to a VIP launch party.

How do we fund the event?
The cost of staging the event is almost met through traders pitch fees -  capped at a level that enables independent producers to exhibit.   We deliberately do not invite national corporates even though they may have deeper pockets as our aim is to  support Kent and its producers.

However  - their traders fees do not cover core costs such as corporation tax, insurance, accountancy,  event management and a myriad of office costs. These costs are met by local authority grant aid, business sponsorship and our invaluable PopAPound donations at the event.

With events cancelled - none of the above will come our way,  leaving core costs, and the future of the festival in jeopardy.

Every single penny raised will go to paying people and getting our house in order so that we may again present something that everyone in Broadstairs can be proud of, and that everyone involved will enjoy.

What Covid-19 help is available to us?
None! Although we are a registered Community Interest Company, we have no business premises so do not qualify for Small Business support.  As a not-for-profit organisation, our margins  are slim and our reserve fund slimmer.

Going forward – and how you can help
We would love to bring the festivals back to Broadstairs in 2021.

However we must raise sufficient funds to fill the black hole in our budget if we are  to bring these much loved events back to Kent.

Loads of you have loved the festival over the years.
If you could show that love by given us a small contribution - price of a coffee - pint of beer! - it would really help us come back in 2021.
No pressure - but huge thanks in advance!
