Brittani's Heart Lung Transplant Fundraiser

This is my sister Brittani.
She was born with 5 congenital heart defects and 2 congenital lung defects. Which lead her to needing life saving open heart surgery at less than a day old at Children’s Memorial Hospital.
She’s had 4 open heart surgeries total and many other cardio procedures at both Children’s (now Lurie Children’s) and Northwestern in Chicago. The last few years she started to decline to a point when a transplant surgery became a serious conversation. The past few months she’s undergone extensive testing to see if she was in the window to be listed for heart/bilateral lung transplant. And to make sure everything else was as healthy as possible to move forward. Northwestern and Children’s didn’t have a team that has done heart/lung transplant together, but in May that all changed. They would have meetings about her case and knew she was comfortable in being the 1st one because she’d already been a 1st during her 3rd open heart surgery, that was a specific and new procedure that’s now a “standard” for pulmonary vein stenosis. One of the 5 congenital heart defects she was born with.
After all the tests, going through a heart cath, drs appointments, meeting with transplant surgeons, going through transplant education... I’m happy to say she’s now listed for heart/bilateral lung transplant. This fundraiser will allow us a better peace of mind since our Mom will have to take FMLA with her job as a paraprofessional in the local school district within the Special Education program. Brittani will need 24/7 care after transplant for at least several months and expenses will need to be covered during that time.
