“God’s time is the best time”
This quote has been a staple in our household even though at times we forget that we have little to no control in the way some life events pan out. We just have to have faith that everything will work out.
My husband, Kwansa, and I just returned from a month long trip to Ghana. The focus of this trip was to finally lay his mother to rest after her sudden passing. We were extremely saddened by her death but know she is resting peacefully and continually blessing us from above!
Our close friends and family know that we have struggled for many years (11+) with infertility, multiple pregnancy losses and miscarriages including an ectopic/tubal pregnancy. We have 7 babies in heaven after mid-term losses including baby Jordan at 21 weeks, baby Jared at 17 weeks and a baby boy at 20 weeks we named Andrew.
Baby Andrew was delivered in 2010 while I was in a medical induced coma due to an unfortunate surgical complication which caused me to become deathly ill. After nearly a month on a ventilator and months of therapy to heal, I was fortunate to make a full recovery with the help of my wonderful doctors and nurses! Even after my near death experience, the desire to become a mother never went away! It made me want to even try harder!
We continued to explore more options but after having to result to a hysterectomy in 2017, I knew our options were extremely limited. I’m forever grateful for my husband who has continually stayed positive and supportive and has never given up on me through my depression, nights of tears, and lost hope. We have spent thousands of dollars over the years on medical bills for treatments that never worked and I was beginning to believe that my prayers would never be answered. We had discussed options that we couldn’t afford, so finally we just decided that maybe it wasn’t meant to be and it wasn’t my time.
Well God had other plans for us because a miracle happened just before our last week in Ghana! We have been given the opportunity to give a beautiful baby girl, who was abandoned by her birth mother in Ghana, the life she deserves to live! We would like to formally introduce Elizabeth “Lizzy” Naa Kordei Annorbah-Sarpei born 8/24/18! Baby Lizzy was named after Kwansa’s Mom because we believe this is a direct blessing from above. We are currently in the process of officially adopting and bringing her back to the states. We are committed to giving her the life she deserves because she is a fighter and is super strong! After being taken to the hospital to be examined, it was found that she was likely a premature baby as she was extremely underweight and lacking nutrients. She also was severely jaundice and needed photolight therapy for a few days. We made the decision that we couldn’t leave baby girl alone, so we both contacted our bosses and told them we would be extending our stays due to the circumstances. Thank God for both companies’ understanding!
Lizzy is an angel baby and continues to get stronger by the day. We unfortunately had to leave her in Ghana in order to start the process. We are unsure of how long the process will take and exactly how much it will cost but we’re asking friends and family for their support to help bring baby Lizzy home to Virginia to be with her forever family! We will need the help for legal fees, social worker, transport to and from Ghana, medical fees, and immigration paperwork to name a few.
It’s extremely hard for me to put my life out here like this because I am a very private person and I know that there are many people (even my personal friends) that share the same struggles that I have gone through and know the pain associated with it all. Even though working for obstetric and infertility clinics for most of my career has been a struggle, it has also been so rewarding because I empathized and understood the experiences of the many patients I saw. My family and friends know my heart and also know that I always try to put on a smile no matter what I may be going through.
