Bring us shelter from the storm - Beth Shalom

Tax deductible
In September 2018, when Hurricane Irma skirted the Tampa Bay area, many of us breathed a sigh of relief; the hurricane had caused no loss of life.

In the aftermath, our congregants came together that early morning to clean up the fallen branches and assess any damage to our beloved home of 28 years.  Initially we counted our blessings, as outwardly, the building looked fine.

However, months later the following rainy season exposed serious damage that was caused to our roof.

Water slowly dripped into several of our classrooms where religious school classes are held for many of the area children.

We struggled to mend and repair the roof and classrooms along the way.  We did not want to disrupt the school or our services, but the water was unrelenting.

A professional evaluation of the building indicated that the hurricane had caused much damage on a good section of the roof.

Our insurance has a very high deductible and only covers a portion of the renovation that needs to be done in repairing the classroom ceilings.

The cost of any renovations, not covered by the insurance policy, will deplete the building fund and any other unallocated funds leaving us financially handicapped.

Much of the fundraising we do is shared throughout the community, where so many good causes rely on our support.

Congregation Beth Shalom, a non-profit, is a vibrant, warm, and the only Reform synagogue in the Greater Brandon area. Our building is the most visible presence of Jewish life in the Brandon FL community.  As a small and diverse congregation at 706 Bryan Road, we provide a home for Jews, accepting all people warmly regardless of their religious upbringing, gender, sexual orientation, race, marital or employment status.  We welcome families of all ages and backgrounds.

We hope your donation will allow us to build on the foundation for our future.  We hope to renovate the building, create a safe environment for our children and provide a spiritual home for our community so we can continue our charity work.

"Give us a place to rest… bring us into shelter in the soft, long, evening shadows of Your truth".
