Bring Spiritual Wisdom to the Climate Crisis

HELP BRING SPIRITUAL WISDOM TO CLIMATE ACTIVISM
For the last nine months, as a deeply concerned mother, former investigative journalist, spiritual teacher and global citizen, I have turned my attention almost exclusively to climate work.
I have lobbied Congress in DC and California with the Citizens Climate Lobby, talked with local politicians here in Santa Cruz, co-founded a local chapter of Extinction Rebellion (XR), worked in coalition with the Sunrise Movement and young students on September's global climate strike, posted several well received essays at Medium ... and dived deep into research on the current state of affairs.
All of this has been on my own dime and time. But I still need to earn money to support my family!
This work feels like the most meaningful work I can do. And the next steps are growing clear.
I feel it is part of my personal journey to bring spiritual understanding and grounding to the world of climate action, and to bring climate action to spiritual and religious communities in ways that work for them, but also help solve the problem.
The nature of the current climate and extinction crisis is emotionally intense for almost all who are looking at it. The need for a deep spiritual understanding, for spiritual guidance, for inward spiritual centering is so great now, I understand it to be perhaps the greatest need of our time.
Who knows where we can each be useful? I have found my role to play and I hope to help others do the same.
In order to do this work, I have left off most of my paid work. While I am now offering coaching and consulting around the climate crisis, I need funding to move forward with several unpaid projects I believe will be highly beneficial to the overall climate action movement
1) I will be writing another Medium essay on "what people can do" that includes small, personal mitigation efforts on up to big activist efforts within the context of our current reality and with respect and pointing to each person’s innate wisdom and circumstances. (See last Medium essay here.)
2) I will be writing yet another Medium essay on our potential internal spiritual and psychological response, gathering some of the best teachings from both inside and outside of the "Three Principles" movement, including those of Mr. Sydney Banks, Joanna Macy, and indigenous spirituality that can guide us now.
3) I am now working on a short book (working title: "Spiritual Activism"), not just "in-the-streets" activist focused, but also about letting go of old habits of thought, greed and acquisition for everyone now in order to access universal wisdom--wherever we are. ... So, I include finding well-being and gratitude outside of monetary success.
To this end, I have applied for a writer's residency and am scheduling a series of writing retreats over the next few months.
4) I will complete my “List” of helpers and healers willing to give pro bono consulting and coaching time to unpaid climate activists (as well as paid services to others) ... These people will be on hand to guide both activists and others (business leaders, schools, governments) toward finding wisdom and right action at this time.
I am currently working with Extinction Rebellion International and national Regenerative Culture efforts and groups and am also connected with the Positive Deep Adaptation global community, helping people adapt, with love and compassion, to inevitable changes to come. Please let me know if you, as a healer, coach or consultant, are interested in being on this list!
5) I continue to run, with colleagues, free, global “Light on the Horizon” webinars the last Friday of every month--in 2020, with other, internationally recognized guest speakers coming online. These are posted to XR sites, and Positive Deep Adaptation sites, and are freely available to anyone who seeks spiritual and loving support as they face into the climate crisis and consider their individual response.
6) I am a volunteer with the Extinction Rebellion International Regenerative Culture Group, XR US and the global Positive Deep Adaptation group in various capacities. Part of this work is to bring the understanding of the Three Principles (innate wisdom and well-being, the role of Thought) to these brave groups, pressuring governments to respond appropriately to this crisis.
WHO BENEFITS? Everyone who wants to become or is currently active on the climate crisis who seeks grounding and wisdom moving forward in any venue or context. Spiritual and psychological healers and teachers who would like to support people dedicated to this cause.
Plus: The planet, human species, ecosystems and civilization itself!
Please help me to jumpstart this work and remain in climate activism! Funds are needed now to support this work in the new year.
... My goal is to raise $12,000 or more to support this work over the next four to six months. If I raise more, I can hire a part-time assistant to "turbo charge" it all.
