WE'RE ADOPTING!
We are Jeff and Heather Dunn. We have two grown children, ages 23 and 20. We are in the process of bringing home an amazing little boy, a waiting child from China and we need your help.
After our daughter, Genevieve, came home from a trip to China this past summer working with orphans she shared with us about the culture, the orphan crisis, and the KIDS! There was one little boy that found a special place in our hearts, Ryker.
Ryker is currently in the care of Maria's Big House of Hope (MBHOH), a care center run by Show Hope for orphans with medical needs. Ryker is almost 8 years old. Ryker was born with Spina Bifida. He is one of the oldest kids at MBHOH. He has waited a long time for a family of his own.
Ryker is smart. Ryker is learning english and sign language. Ryker even helps teach American workers at the care center Mandarin (Chinese). He likes to teach other children in the care center to share.
Ryker is creative. Ryker LOVES craft time. I hear that his favorite is glue, or as he says it, ga-loo.
Ryker loves taking pictures. When he comes home our phones will be filled with sefies galore! Being a photographer, I can't wait to share a love of taking photos with him.
Jeff and I have been pre-approved by the China Center for Children's Welfare and Adoption (CCCWA) to pursue the adoption of Ryker. We submitted our official adoption contract this week. It'll be almost a year long process to bring him home.
International adoption is expensive. Our total costs to bring Ryker home could add up to almost $40,000. Agency fees will run about $10,000. The Homestudy agency fees could total about $7,000 with post placement fees included. China requires a donation to the orphanage that adoptive children are affiliated with of almost $6,000. Adopting from China requires travel. Adoptive parents usually spend about two weeks in country finalizing the adoption process. Airfare (roundtrip for two adults and one way home for the child) can cost up to $10,000. These numbers are big and scary. These costs equal a life forever changed.
In addition to this gofundme campaign, we are seeking every possible source of funds to help bring Ryker home. Heather's employer has an adoption reimbursement program that will reimburse a small amount of the costs. We are looking into a frequent flier miles card to help with travel costs. We will be applying for every grant that we can find. We are working on a T-shirt design and researching every possible fundraiser that we can plan. Will you help us bring this amazing little boy home? Every little bit helps. If you can give, great! If you can't give, please share this campaign, maybe someone that you know can. If you want to donate and receive a receipt for a tax deduction, please contact us for an alternate way to give to our adoption agency through a 501(c) (3) organization.
If more funds are raised than needed for the cost of our adoption the extra funds will be used for other costs related to bringing Ryker home. We will need to make some changes around our home to make it wheelchair accessible. We plan on removing our carpet and installing an engineered wood floor.
Through out this journey we'll be posting lots of updates, and we'll let you know if there are other ways that you can partner with us to help an orphan know the love of a family.
To add a little bit of fun, for anyone that donates $20(+) your name will be written on the back of a puzzle piece as a keepsake for our family. Once complete it will hang in a double sided frame. The puzzle will serve to visualize how close we are to raising the funds - and also as a reminder of the village we have supporting us through this process! Help us get our "missing piece" home!!
