Bring Roshan & his Family home!

A group of eight western countries Australia, Canada, Denmark, New Zealand, Norway, the Netherland, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America came together in 2007 to create new opportunities for Bhutanese refugees who have been languishing in seven refugee camps in eastern Nepal for almost two decades. As a result of this humanitarian effort, nearly 90 per cent of Bhutanese refugees have resettled across the world and are thriving in their new homes.

Regrettably, there are many unlucky refugees stranded in Nepal with few opportunities left to start a new life. My son, Roshan Basnet, his wife, Neeta, and 11 year old son, Ryan, are among these stranded refugees, unable to be reunited with us here in the U.S. and Canada. This prolonged family separation is a tremendous source of anguish, frustration, and stress for Roshan and our family.

After exploring a number of options, the law firm, Allen & Overy LLP, which is representing my son and his family on a pro bono basis, has advised us that Roshan, his wife and son can be resettled in Canada under a group sponsorship. To resettle Roshan and his family in Canada, a group of five Canadian residents have to sponsor him and show that at least $25,000.00 is available to provide Roshan and his family with housing, food, medicine, and education for Ryan.  This welcome news has given us a ray of hope that our family will finally be reunited.

However, we are experiencing a daunting task to put up so much money within so little time and, therefore, decided to reach out to family members, friends, and well-wishers to kindly contribute whatsoever amount you possibly think you can to this endeavor so that our collective efforts can reunite our family.

I humbly ask for your support and I thank you all in advance for your efforts to help bring Roshan and his family to their new home in Canada.
