Bring Percy home to me

Donation protected
My name is Natasha and I am looking to raise money to receive my service dog Percy through Thames Center Service Dogs
https://www.thamescentreservicedogs.com/index.html

I have paid over $5000 for Percy and have $20,000 left to go.. I applied for the disability tax credit which will help me pay a big portion. I am not asking to help pay for him but to help me receive him as I have to pay for the mileage and motel for the trainers to bring Percy to me from London Ontario to Sudbury Ontario.

Why do I need a service dog?

I have Borderline Personality Disorder, ADD and symptoms of PTSD
My mom has a service dog for her hearing loss and I've seen how her quality of life has changed because of her dog and in the best way possible! I want that too... Read the letter below as it will explain some of the reasons why I need a service dog.

I am writing to you on behalf of Natasha, a close friend of mine who struggles with mental health and addiction and would benefit from having a service dog.

I have known Natasha since my early childhood. I have seen her struggle with her mental health for a number of years, including up close during a period where she lived with me and my family. When she first came to live with us she had barely any hair on her head. I observed as she would grow it back and pull it out again. The cycle kept repeating. During that time she slept a lot and didn’t leave the house very often.  Even after she moved away we remained close and she often confided in me about her intense struggles. She came to visit me and my family a few years ago and we witnessed her anxiety first hand. She had a panic attack in the crowded aquarium. Natasha broke out into a panic, crying and sweating. She was barely consolable.

Natasha would benefit greatly from a service dog for a variety of reasons. Dogs require outside time, they need to use the washroom and get exercise. This kind of commitment would force Natasha to get out of the house and exercise herself which would contribute greatly to her recovery. Caring for a dog, feeding it, grooming it, etc would also bring routine to her life to keep her grounded and active. Currently, Natasha is in a stabilization house. She has a strict routine and is seeing improvement in herself everyday. However, once she leaves, maintaining a routine will prove very difficult. Having a service dog will help her with those difficulties. This dog would also be able to help her in public situations when dealing with crowds and other stressors. That day at the aquarium, her mother was luckily with us and able to help her. Once she is on her own she will be out in the real world alone, without the help of her mother and friends, a service dog will allow her a constant companion to support her soothe her anxieties, and act as a barrier to help her achieve the amount of physical space she requires from others. The dog would be there to bring her back to reality during manic episodes, help her take her medication, and distract her during self harming behaviour (pulling her hair etc). A dog trained to maintain a calm disposition and nudge her when she is in distress will help to prevent self destructive behaviour and calm her down during depressive episodes.

Natasha is a persistent and dedicated individual. She has been struggling for many years and has been seeking help for many years as well. Unfortunately, programs such as the one she is currently in are temporary. Resuming everyday life will be a struggle for her. She requires extra support and help. Family and friends are not able to physically be there to support her like a service dog would. Having a service dog will be life changing for Natasha, and the perfect way to help her get back on her feet and moving in the right direction to a healthy and stable future.

Sincerely,

Emily....
