Bring Night Garden to the stage

Our goal of $4,500 will mean all of our base expenses will be covered and all dancers will receive a fair honorarium for their performance. We would be very happy to reach this goal!
Our dream goal of $15,000 would mean paying our dancers properly for all of their expenses and hard work: creating, choreographing, rehearsing and traveling to create this show. With this budget we could create the full lighting and projection design we originally envisioned, as well as a more workable costuming budget for our amazing local designers. It would also mean being able to pay our local stage manager, videographer and photographer their full rate. Reaching this goal would mean our ambitious vision for this show would become a reality!

As many of you know, we have been working together for well over a year on Night Garden, our most exciting project yet. (March 30 and 31 at Alderney Landing Theatre!) Monique and Laura were honoured to receive a grant from Arts Nova Scotia, and Nawal from ArtsNB, to help create some of the choreographic works for this show.
However we are sad to say that our multiple applications for funding for the production phase have not been successful. Bellydance is still gaining recognition in the local arts community, and as this is our first attempt at a production of this level, this is not completely unexpected. However, we are hoping that the work we create for this show will build a case for funding in the future!
Although our budget is modest, there are many expenses in a stage production such as this. We have passionately worked for over a year, designing this show from the ground up - including the overall structure, choreographies, costumes, and lighting. Sacha and Nawal have been driving for hours nearly every month to rehearse with us here in Halifax. With all this work, we are hoping that this will be the first in long road of high-level theatrical bellydance productions in the Maritimes, and with your support, it will be possible!
We are looking for donors who would like to contribute directly our goal of taking the art of bellydance to the next level in the Maritimes, paving the road for future opportunities for bellydance artists in our region. You will also be supporting us each as growing, evolving artists who want to bring the best to our audience!
Over the last two decades we have each contributed countless hours to study, practice, teaching, and performances; producing events, providing learning opportunities from world renowned artists, and collaborating with other professionals. We have spent years actively engaging in our communities to raise the knowledge of professional bellydance; and the project is the culmination of that work.
