Imagine yourself having a conversation with your son, just a few days before his 8th birthday. And your little precious sunshine is asking you not to spend money on a birthday present – but to keep the money for the lawyers to get him and his little sister back home.
I am asking you to help my friend Mareme to get her children back home to Berlin!
For almost a year the children (8 and 4) have been separated now from their Mum, as they have to stay with their father in South Africa. For almost a year we are waiting for a judge to decide whether the kids can return home to Berlin or not. Two assessments have already taken place, by the local authorities and by one of the most professional psychologists in the field – with the same results: Mareme's children want and shall return home.
South Africa is not their home. Not a single member of this family is South African. The father doesn’t even have a work permit, neither residency in South Africa. For the past 4 years he is living there on a tourist visa.
Finally the judge has appointed a date for a court hearing in South Africa but right after Mareme had booked her ticket, the date has been changed to an earlier date. This in general is fantastic, after waiting for almost a year! But having court cases going on in four different countries regarding her children and about her divorce, Mareme's financial situation is disastrous. She can’t afford buying a new ticket, neither paying her lawyer to support her at court next week.
None of us can take away the agony Mareme and her children have to bear. But we can take the financial burden off her shoulders - together! Please help me raising the money to get Mareme's children back home!
