Hi everyone,
Our father, Les was involved in an accident while on holiday in Koh Samui on Sunday the 8th of July. He was hit by a car while on a motorbike, causing him to fall to the ground and hit his head. He suffered an acute subdural hematoma and required emergency surgery involving a craniotomy. Since then he has been in a coma and there is likely brain damage. We do not know if and when he will come out of his coma.
Unfortunately, we have just found out that his travel insurance company will not cover him due to the fact he was on a motorbike, even though the accident was not his fault. We need to get him home to Australia to continue treatment at the Alfred, as the risk of reinfection, particularly in a Thai hospital, is extremely high. His situation is urgent.
His current medical bill is approximately $70,000 (and rising by the day) and it will cost approximately $120,000 to bring him home via an air ambulance.
We understand that people covering the entire bill is unlikely, but anything you can do to help our family out in this time would be amazingly valued and appreciated.
Our dad served his community for a large amount of his life as part of the Australian Army and as a member of the Victoria Police. He was always doing something for others around him, whether it be through the Montrose Football Club or the East Malvern Golf Club.
