</div>
<div><strong>about the protagonist:</strong> Nicknamed “The Neighborhood Hero” - Geordan is a jack of all trades and a master of much. A graduate of Morehouse College (‘21), he serves the city of Atlanta as Firefighter, Advanced EMT, Water Safety Instructor, Swift Water Rescue Specialist, Lifeguard, and CPR/First Aid provider.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In between fighting fires, he runs Drip No Drown Swimming - a traveling swim school specializing in trauma informed water safety for Black children and adults.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>why this story matters: </strong>“preparations” is a grounded meditation on Black health and quality of life in a country where systemic racism and generational trauma have contributed to alarming racial disparities in all major health indicating fields. We focus in on one area in particular, the ability to swim, as an urgent public health and climate issue.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As climate change intensifies flooding and water-related disasters, swimming becomes a survival skill, 64% of Black Americans today lack basic swim competency. This film highlights one grassroots response—Geordan Colden’s mission to teach water safety in Atlanta’s Black communities, inspiring self-confidence and determination in the process.
