Bring Dan Back to Redding

Donation protected
Hi Everyone!

For the past 18 months my dad, Dan Koolhoven, has been in the full time care of my sister, Kirsten, in Phoenix, AZ. She stepped up to the plate quickly and took him in after an insurance complication made it financially impossible for him to stay at the rehab hospital he was in. She has taken on the role of full-time caregiver while also being a single mom to her four beautiful kids, ages 3-16, and working as a massage therapist part time. Needless to say it has been a huge challenge, but one she has met with grace, patience and dignity.

The good news is, after YEARS on a waiting list, a spot has opened up for my dad at the Veterens Home in Redding, Ca. This is a huge answer to prayer, as the fight for my dad to receive the full benefits he deserves as a US Navy veteren has been very long and hard.  It has always been the goal for him to receive care in Redding, the place he has called home for the last 30 years.

This new development is amazing, but it has to be acted on quickly. The Veterens home is requiring an upfront payment for the spot, and there are additional costs to transport him back, as well as transitional costs for my sister.

My family is asking again for assistance from his friends, family and anyone who can help.  Moving back to Redding puts my dad back into his community and allows his friends to visit him which will lift his spirits, gives him the benefits he's entitled to as a veteren and relieves my sister of the stress and burden of being a caretaker so she can fully focus on raising her kids.

If there is anyway you can help, whether financially, practically or just by keeping him in your prayers, we would be incredibly grateful!

For those who don't know my dad's story, I've included it below:

"Dan "The Man" Koolhoven is a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, teacher and coach in the Redding community. For nearly 40 years, he has given of his time and talent to various organizations in Shasta County, including the Burney Volunteer Fire Department, PG&E, all of his kid's and grandkid's sports teams, to teaching Special Education, and he was recently inducted into the Enterprise High School Sports Hall of Fame for his years of volunteering and coaching.

Between 2008-2009, Dan underwent two surgeries to have both of his feet amputated, due to years of chronic pain and infection. Dan is not the type of guy to be brought down by circumstance. When asked how he was feeling, he would often reply "I can't wait to be able to walk 18 holes of golf with the guys." Because of his positive attitude, his healing was remarkable and he was able to resume doing the things he loves within a year."

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
