Hello Everyone and Merry Christmas!!
For those of you who don’t know me or about this fundraiser, I’ll fill you guys in. My name is Lory Nagy, and I was born in Guatemala. My parents met as missionaries working in an orphanage. My mom is a native Guatemalan and grew up in extreme poverty, much like these families.
A few years ago, during the peak of COVID, I learned of a rural and predominantly indigenous village in Guatemala, called Cajahualten. When I visited and saw the conditions these people live in, it broke my heart. Many of the families live in a one room homes with dirt floors, tin makeshift roofs, and sleep on the floor or wood planks with blankets (see the below). Most of these families only speak their indigenous language and their children aren’t able to go to school.
Since most of these families have had little to no formal education, they rely heavily on micro-farming and bartering to survive. The village is in a rural, mountainous area that has very difficult terrain with little to no public transit.
The Cost Breakdown:
Last year, through God’s faithfulness and the generosity of friends and family we were able to raise $4,500! This meant we were able to supply 15 families with Christmas bundles and additional quarterly bundles. The Christmas bundle includes a new pair of shoes, toys for children, sweater & pant set, and candy for each child. Additionally, we provide the families with baskets of food and household goods. These baskets are filled with a large supply of nonperishable foods like rice, beans, flour, coffee, salt & sugar, corn, oil, and soap. These bundles come out to be around $200/family. Thanks to your generosity, we’re able to provide the food baskets 4 times a year to each family (~$100) along with some treats and toys for the kids! So, in all we are asking for your help to support 15 families for Christmas & throughout the year, ~ $300 per family.
I can’t tell you what a blessing it has been to have the extra funds and what a difference it has made. When delivering the last baskets, several moms were moved to tears and said they didn’t know how they were going to feed their children and needed a miracle. Your donations make such a difference in these people’s lives and I can’t thank you all enough for loving the people of my country.
I am so thankful for all the families we’ve been able to bless through the kindness and generosity of friends and family. Please see below a few pictures of the families we’re going to support and what your donation goes towards.
Additionally, my parents will be moving to Guatemala in 2025 to serve this community as full time missionaries. If you are interested in supporting them as they bless this community and share the gospel with them please let me know and I will connect you with them.
Again, thank you so much for your continued support and for loving the people of my country. God bless you all and have a blessed and Merry Christmas.
With love,
Lory Nagy
