Help Bring Alexia and Her Family Home

Donation protected
We are starting this page in support of our dear church friend whom we have known for years and who has encountered difficult challenges. Shortly after giving birth, Alexia was suffering from many symptoms-high fever, aching body, nausea, chills, etc. While a course of antibiotics seemed to help, after finishing them, she was sick again. Doctors were unable to figure out what was wrong.  After many doctors visits and testing, Alexia and her young family received devastating news: she has stage four colon cancer that has metastasized to her liver and possibly her lungs as well.

Alexia needs considerable medical care starting immediately. Doctors want to perform surgery on her liver and colon within two to three months given the urgency of her condition. After recovery they are hoping to move home to Canada and continue treatment there. She will need three months of cancer therapy, and hospitalization immediately upon arrival in Canada. However, due to bureaucratic rules within the Canadian health system,  she won't be eligible for coverage for three months. Even worse, all her necessary costs during that period will not be reimbursed. This is sure to amount to an overwhelming financial burden on such a young family.

Alexia is living in Sweden with her husband Jovan and their two children Athanasios (19 months) and Hristiana (two months). It was always their intention to make their way back to Alexia's home town of London, Ontario, Canada and raise their children there. Now, it is more important than ever that they are able to make their way back QUICKLY. With Alexia's diagnosis and tough fight ahead, it is so important that she is near her family and that the children have their extended family to support them, including Alexia's parents whose hearts are aching and want to be with their daughter and grandchildren.

There are further complications. Alexia's husband is from Sweden and would need to be sponsored to stay in Canada. This process will take some time, which they are not sure they have given the severity of Alexia's diagnosis. Even worse, having a large financial debt from medical bills can make it impossible for Alexia to serve as sponsor for husband's citizenship. They are in need of prayers that the transition go swiftly and smoothly (if anything happens to Alexia before the process goes through, her husband and children could be forced back to Sweden). They are in financial need for his sponsorship, their move, and most importantly her medical expenses in Canada. It will be 3 months before her health card can be reinstated, which will leave them to pay out of pocket for any medical bills incurred in those 3 months.

The funds from this fundraiser will be used to cover Alexia's medical expenses for cancer treatment.
