Bring Abel & Family Home

Donation protected
I "met" Abel Moyo though an article in the NY Times. He was originally "discovered" in 2010 by Nicholas Kristof as a 17 year old orphan.  Originally from Zimbabwe he's living in a shack in South Africa near the airport outside of Johannesburg. From the article:

"Abel walked 9 miles to high school, which teachers let him attend even though he could not afford the school fees. When he came home, he cooked mush for the younger kids (ranging in age from 8 to 11), dispensing comfort and discipline as the surrogate father, and did his homework by firelight. The family was effectively two families that came to live together after their parents had died of AIDS and other causes. "

Interesting side note: Abel graduated first in his class.

I reached out and connected with him because his story was so compelling and he has inspired me every day since then. Abel is now 23 and supports his sister and her kids along with himself as best he can though he often goes hungry.

Over the past few months I've been able to help him and his family get their papers in order to return to Zimbabwe. He's taken courses and received his certificate for food handling. He's also put together a detailed plan to start a fast food stand back home and is now in a position to move himself and the family back.

I've reviewed Abel's plans and I am so inspired by his resilience, grace, vision and hard work that I'm asking you to help me help Abel achieve his vision for self sufficiency back in his home country. Helping Abel helps his whole extended family.

To purchase the cooking equipment and related materials needed we've calculated that $2,000 will bring the whole family home and get them what they need to set up their new business.

Please help Abel and his family start their new life back in the "new" Zimbabwe.  I'm doing what I can but I need your help to get them home safely to launch their new venture.

Abel is a special person and I know with your help we can lift his family out of poverty for good. I'll be eternally grateful for anything you can contribute and more importantly Abel and his family will be grateful for the opportunity to work themselves out of poverty.

We're hoping they can begin their journey back by April first and with your help I know they can. Any extra money raised will go to his family for living expenses
