Bring a mother home to her children

Donation protected
There's a twelve-year old boy,*  living in the Río Grande Valley of South Texas, who right now is struggling with the long-term effects of an intracranial hemorrhage -- or stroke -- that he suffered at five years old.

And there's his mother trapped five hours away (or more than eleven hours, by bus), confined in a private, for-profit prison corporation at the behest of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.  She's been locked up since June.

This young boy is living with his siblings and a kind neighbor who took them in when, after their mom's detention, the kids were evicted from their home.  But none of his dedicated siblings, nor the kindly neighbor, are as familiar with the child's medical and emotional needs as is his mother.   Nor can any of them act as his guardian to consent to medical treatment or educational programs.  The pediatric neurologist who treats this kid says that it is "crucially important that this patient continue his evaluations and treatment without interruption."  But of course this child's treatment has been interrupted by his mother's absence.

This mother has a *very* strong case that she should be able to stay in the U.S., as a person who likely qualifies to become a legal permanent resident.  And the immigration judge has found that this mother presents no danger to the community or to national security, and that she is not a flight risk.  In other words, she's very likely to show up at all her immigration hearings.

There's just one problem:  bond.  The judge has set the bond for the mother at $6500.  (ICE wanted the bond to be $10,000.)  And there's no way that the kids -- or their imprisoned mother -- can pay.

Can you help?

Thank you for anything you can do for this family.  If you're not able to donate -- and I know that many of you are giving all you can in SO many ways -- perhaps you could help by spreading the word, or by writing a kind note to the family.
