Here is their story from Sergeant Jonathan Briick.
"Two months after giving birth to our second child Erin noticed a small bulge by her belly button. Thinking it was a hernia she went to the doctor. Not knowing what it was the dr ordered an ultra sound which showed a 2cm tumor growing. In about a weeks time the tumor grew from 2cm to 20cm. Surgery was scheduled a couple days later and that's when we found out the tumor was cancer. The worst was still yet to come. After receiving the pathology report we were told she had small cell ovarian cancer which is extremely rare and aggressive. Very few doctors have even seen this kind of cancer much less had success treating it. The prognosis was poor with about a 10% chance of making it past a year. With two small children that was unacceptable to us so we sought out the best doctor in the country for who is successfully treating this type of cancer. That is how we ended up at md Anderson in Houston with a way more optimistic prognosis. Financing the trips has been a burden on us but every penny has been worth it knowing that Erin will be around to watch our kids grow up!"
