Brighton NHS workers say no to pay inequality

Brighton NHS Workers Say No

We are a group of healthcare workers clubbing together to make a stand for the pay inequality our NHS workforce are experiencing.

As you may or may not be aware - Almost 900,000 public sector workers are to get an above-inflation pay rise, including doctors and teachers.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak said he recognised their "vital contribution" during the coronavirus pandemic.

ALL NHS STAFF (bar consultants) WERE NOT INCLUDED.

We believe this is an outrage and demand our efforts to be acknowledged with the due respect they deserve.

NHS staff paid on Agenda for Change have been subjected to rejection time and time again for a pay rise over the years. We have kept quiet and adhered to what is seen as morally and ethically the ‘right thing to do’.

The fight is not just around pay but the whole NHS we want.

We’re seeing incredibly high levels of privatisation of services, of companies getting contracts without any tendering, without any scrutiny. Currently bailouts are being paid to private companies for services many NHS workers could provide. We’ve seen an utter scandal with PPE procurement and distribution, we’ve seen the same thing with track and trace and lab contracts/ services. We’ve seen the same thing with nightingale hospital who saw few patients but paid public money to private companies. And now the government has just voted for the NHS to be on the table for trade deals.

While this health crisis has seen billionaires like Richard Branson bailed out, there have been things that many of us have campaigned about for years such as renationalising the railways and rough sleeps accommodated, both of which happened during this crisis, so none of those things were impossible, were they?

They’re about political priorities and so is fair pay for NHS workers.

I know throughout this pandemic the public recognised us. I know they see us and I know they are proud of us. And we are grateful for the support the public has shown us. But we need that support, that pride, that recognition to be converted into policy. We need that belief in our NHS to lead to change that recognises our value and recognises us fairly.

We currently have over 79,000 healthcare workers and members of the public involved and want to continue to grow.

Please see link at the top of this story for our Facebook group.

We need all the support we can get to really make a statement.

The money raised will be spent on banners, flyers and advertisement for our cause.

All monies raised will be invested into this any remaining monies will donated to a chosen charity by the people of our march.

We hope to see as many faces as we can come to events,

Thank you.
