Bright Eyes Goes Abroad
Hi, my name is Brittany Allen and I am a junior at Central Washington University. I am majoring in English: Writing Specialization and minoring in Political Science and Art Studio (Photography) with aspirations of pursuing a career in photojournalism.
As I consider my options for the upcoming summer, it would appear one thing really stands in the way of my getting to go and learn somewhere outside of the states: money.
One of my major reasons for wanting to be a photojournalist is to travel, so why not start now?
Good grades can't seem to fully fund me studying political science in Istanbul or getting hands-on journalistic experience in Valencia. So I decided, before I entirely give up on the idea of pursuing a goal I was once (almost unrealistically) passionate about, I'd reach out and at least attempt to break down a bit of the financial barrier between me and such a great career and cultural experience.
Recently I have just finished the first quarter of my junior year at Central Washington University with a rather surprising 3.824 GPA. This is surprising because of how arduous this quarter has been. Between entire days spent in the dark room, late nights writing proposals for tech writing and papers for poli-sci while also interviewing and writing for the school paper, it was a true juggling act of a quarter. But it confirmed something for me: my major and two minors are crazy, but I can balance them. I can balance my overall writing career with my interests in photography and politics. What better for a journalist to juggle?
Of the programs I have researched for studying abroad, the two which have stood out the most would both be summer programs. This is perfect because then I can gain experience in my field without setting myself off-track academically.
As of yet I am not set on one program in particular, but that is due to hesitation caused by seemingly insufficient funds.
Please help me make these aspirations possible by donating as much as you can!
Thank you!
P.S. If I do not raise enough money to study abroad the funds raised will be put towards my future education at Central Washington University.
