Brigade to Honduras!

Hi, I am Sarah Glass and I am studying Chemical Engineering and Environmental Toxicology at Louisiana State University. I hope to use this degree to make progress towards fixing the Global Water Crisis facing so many developing communities today. Through my position as an undergraduate researcher I am researching and developing ways to disinfect water without using expensive chemicals or machinery, instead using the sun. I am passionate about this research because it can be applied in those communities that lack access to clean water due to the financial burden. Another way I am able to help provide access to clean water for developing communities is through service.

Over the summer, I founded a chapter of Global Water Brigades at LSU. This organization provides students with the opportunity to travel abroad and build a water system in a community lacking access to clean water, greatly impacting the community's ability to grow and succeed. Global Water Brigades is part of the international non-profit organization Global Brigades, an organization focused on sustainable solutions to global crises.

My chapter of Global Water Brigades and I will be travelling to Honduras in March of 2020 to build a water system for a rural community in the southern part of the country. My chapter is full of servant-hearted students from all corners of campus with one common goal: to really impact this community. On the nine day brigade we build the system from start to finish, educate the community members on maintenance and water sustainability, and check a previously built system by a different chapter of Global Water Brigades in a neighboring community.

Putting together this brigade has been fun and challenging, and I know all 20 of us are very excited to get on that plane! With your help we can make providing access to clean water for this community a reality! The trip cost reflects housing, meals, materials needed, and programming, as well as the round trip flight to Honduras and back to LSU. Your contributions to the cost of the trip, $1880 per brigade member, can help make a real impact on a community that need us. Your support means the world to me and I will be looking to leaders like you for guidance and I lead my chapter on this brigade in 2020.

Thank you for your contribution and I cannot wait to share the results of our work with you!
