<div>Conocí a Brien en Mayo del 2023 durante la inauguración de mi primer exposición individual de collage en Oaxaca. Bastaron unos minutos de charla para sentirme conectado con Él, primero por su agradable aura y después porque me emocioné al escuchar su visión enigmática del collage.

<div>Pasaron unos días y me llegó un mensaje donde me invitaba a su casa, en el bello Jalatlaco, para conocer su obra. Al llegar, me recibió con una gran sonrisa. Entré y lo primero que vi fueron sus cuadros colgados, estaban en cada rincón de los muros, pensé ¡ Esto es un museo !.

<div>Y como en una visita guiada por el artista en un museo, me dio un recorrido iniciando por la sala, pasando por el cuarto de lavado, subiendo las escaleras hasta llegar a su estudio. En cada rincón estaba su obra ¡ Incluso en el baño !. Me di cuenta sobre cuán importante era para Brien su trabajo artístico. Sentí admiración profunda.

<div>Mis visitas a su casa fueron frecuentes, lo escuchaba hablar de sus viajes, de sus inicios en el collage, de sus aventuras en el underground estadounidense entre los 70’s y 90’s.

<div>Entablamos amistad y a cambio de un trueque por uno de mis cuadros, comencé a quedarme en una de las habitaciones de su hogar, que utilicé para descansar, crear y jugar con su gatito Lolito. Por lo que tuve la fortuna de pasar todo el tiempo que quisiera observando a detalle sus collages, sus scrapbooks y sobretodo, seguir conversando sobre collage y su vida.

<div>Después de unos meses de convivencia con Brien en Oaxaca, regresé a Ciudad de México, sin embargo siempre tuve las puertas abiertas con Él, con su característica sonrisa me recibía en cada una de mis visitas. Estoy muy agradecido por ello.

<div>Por mensajes le comentaba sobre organizar aquí en Ciudad de México, una exposición de su trayectoria. Ya habíamos hecho una, “Imágenes Fantasmagóricas”, allá en Oaxaca. Le emocionó la idea…

<div>El 24 de Julio de este 2025, recibí la noticia sobre su fallecimiento. Brien se ha ido físicamente… sin embargo sigue presente a través de su obra. Sigo firme con realizar “Imágenes Fantasmagóricas II”, aquí en Ciudad de México y nuevamente en Oaxaca.

<div>Realizar estas exposiciones son el primer paso para cumplir la promesa de seguir difundiendo la vida y obra de nuestro querido Brien Coleman, para homenajearlo entre quienes lo conocimos y compartir su legado con el mundo.
