On July 14th, I went down a slide with Jacob. At the very bottom, we caught air and I put my foot down. That was a silly choice. I got to the bottom of the slide, Jacob ran off to go play some more, I looked at Richard and said, “I think I broke something…”. My ankle was dislocated. We waited for EMS; they couldn’t find pulses, so the EMT said we had one shot to relocate it. The EMT was successful and we had pulses again (it also started hurting a lot more once we got blood flowing again). Silly me was like, “yeah, now we don’t have to go to the hospital!”… but we did. I have a tri-malleolar fracture on my left ankle. I also have a fracture on both my tibia and fibula. I’m having surgery Friday, July 18th.

Normally, this wouldn’t be an issue. We left Morgantown, WV and moved to PA in July. We had BCBS until June 30th. When we moved, we applied for Pennie (the Pennsylvania marketplace). Initially, we were informed coverage would start from our move date; we were informed (today) our insurance will not start coverage until August 1st.

The lovely lady with the PA marketplace suggested I reschedule my surgery for a date after my coverage re-starts .

The hospital is requiring half of surgery costs up-front.
