Brickyard Historical Markers
Donation protected
UPDATE: We did it. Thanks to all those who donated through GoFundMe, Venmo, and personal check, we made it to our final goal of $5000.
What do Ft. Sumter, Castle Pinckney, the Historic Rice Mill, Boone Hall, and hundreds of other structures throughout the Lowcountry all have in common? Bricks. Bricks that survive today. Bricks that were created by slaves from the land on which your house currently sits. The history of the brickyard that was the foundation of Charleston and Brickyard Plantation is our history, and it should not be lost to history.
Members of the Brickyard community are working hard to create two historical markers that commemorate Brickyard’s Butterfly Lake and The Chimney, which were used in the production of millions of the bricks used around Charleston, many of which still stand today! We need your help to remember these priceless endeavors of history.
The Mt. Pleasant Historical Commission has endorsed these efforts and supports the work being done to forever remember these historic landmarks. As a community, we can preserve the history of Brickyard Plantation, but we need your help. It only takes a little to make a difference. Please donate today.
