13 years, 12 medications, 2 attempts at the ketogenic diet, 1 vagal nerve stimulator (“VNS”), countless tests and still uncontrolled seizures. We have run out of options and at this time we are putting all our eggs in the low-THC medical marijuana, also known as Charlotte’s Web (“CW”), basket. Living in FL, we have had to wait several years for access to low-THC/CW, but now the reality of obtaining the medication seems even bleaker due to cost. Brianna’s full dose will cost $1,650 per month ($275 per bottle times 6 bottles per month).
Brianna’s quality of life (all of ours for that matter) is greatly impacted by her seizures. She is afraid to go outside in bright sunlight for fear the sun will trigger a seizure. The same thing is true about certain places where she has had seizures…certain restaurants, arcades, bounce house places, certain bowling alleys. She refuses to ride in the front seat of the car because one time she had a seizure in the front seat. This is no way to live, especially for a teenager who has her whole life to live!!
Here is where we hope you come in to help us give our daughter a seizure free life. Despite legalizing CW at the state level, CW is not covered by insurance and likely will not for years to come due to federal constraints. Therefore, we are on our own to figure out how to afford to save our daughter. We have started Brianna on a very low dose of CW (thanks to our tax return) and we can see a glimmer of promise that if not a total cessation in seizures, she will experience at least a reduction in the number of seizures she has!
We are hopeful and optimistic that CW will bring some MUCH needed relief! There are no words for the pain and heartbreak we experience watching hopelessly as our daughter shakes and seizes, waiting and wondering if she will come out of the seizure. I can barely get through writing this paragraph let along living this nightmare daily! We have such an amazing support network and we never want to abuse that, but we also know when we need help. We greatly appreciate any amount donated as it will all add up to buy her bottles of CW!! Thank you!
