Remembering Brian

UPDATE: This is just a quick note and another thanks to you for your generosity. There is no further action you need to take other than to wish his family well during this part of the year. Austin Mellinger (Brian's son) has been named the beneficiary of this campaign and I know that he and the entire Mellinger family thank you from the depth of their hearts. Again thanks!
Do you remember the first time you've met someone? It's usually a memory that you don't soon forget? Well, I don't actually remember the day that I met Brian, but over the last three years, I have been able to recall many days spent with Brian as we planned activities for the Greater Atlanta Chapter of ASIS International.
As of September 19, 2017, Brian held the position of Vice-Chairman of our chapter. Unfortunately, he lost his battle with cancer and died before assuming the role of Chapter Chair. In reality, he would have been Chapter Chair this year, had we not agreed to maintain our roles for two consecutive years. But that's how Brian was as a person. He was always willing to sacrifice for the greater good and to do the work of others when they could not it for themselves.
But, Brian was bright, too. In meetings, he would always find creative ways to resolve any issues that may have surfaced. He was respected by all of his peers and none more than the hundreds of law enforcement officers and our member supported companies who attended our Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Day events.
Brian's ability to organize and facilitate this event has been recognized by our chapters and many who have attended this event. He was also well-known throughout our International organization. He facilitated and discussed Hospitality Security at the national level and provided expertise to customers, end-users and vendors who work in this market segment.
Like many volunteer leaders, Brian spent a disproportionate amount of time serving others. He donated his time and resources to ASIS and for the last 8 years the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel. And, unfortunately, through a change in hotel ownership, Brian's position with his former company was eliminated. So, during the last six months, while battling cancer, Brian was unemployed with little or no income. His wife Valerie and children need our help.
Now, of course, many of us have already donated materially to support recent disasters like Harvey, Irma and now, Maria. No doubt, these contributions will help so many people who are in dire need.
Even still, I want you to know that Brian's family is in need of our help and whatever you can donate on his behalf would not go unnoticed. The funds will be used to help support their daily needs in the days, weeks and months to come.
If you cannot donate anything at this time, please keep his family in mind and perhaps, in the weeks to come, you will be in a better position to assist.
Our goal is to provide these funds by October 13, 2017.
