The Hathaway's need our help

Hi everyone I just want to thank you for taking the time to read this. I'm starting this fundraiser for my friends Brian and Dana Hathaway.

Brian is 44 years old, a husband and a father of 2. He was born and raised in Northern California, and anyone that knows Brian knows his love for life with his big happy personality and his even bigger laugh. Oh and he gives the BEST bear hugs ever! We all know what an amazing loving man he is. (Thank god he grew up cause he was rotten as a child haha.) Brian and I have been friends for as long as I can remember and Brian is the type of person who would give his shirt off his back to help someone else out. Now it's our turn to help him and his family out.

May 1, 2014-Brian was diagnosed unexpectedly with Stage 5 Kidney Failure

June 11, 2014-His left kidney was removed with a softball sized tumor  attached. He started dialysis but the remaining kidney was abnormally small and operated at only  5%. The tumor was a low grade cancer with less than a 3% chance of it returning.

February 2015-A small growth is found on the right kidney. Brian's outlook remained amazing! His response was "less than a 3% chance of it returning and it did. with odds like that I should be playing the lottery!"

November 2015 -Brian's right kidney is removed. Brian exists solely on dialysis.

March 2017-Brian had to stop working, otherwise he wouldn't qualify for Medicare to cover his transplant. Brain and Dana have insurance through their jobs but it is required that dialysis patients go onto Medicare 30 months after starting dialysis to cover the transplant. Medicare ONLY covers the hospital stay, not the doctors or medicine. Brian has worked all his life so this was a very hard time for him.

November 2017-Brian's cousin offers to be tested to donate and starts the process

December 2017-Family all gets that nasty cold that was going around.

January 5, 2018-Brian's cold seemed to be getting worse and he had extremely low blood pressure. He was admitted into the hospital with pneumonia . Doctors figured his blood pressure was low due to the fact he has no kidneys and they help regulate blood pressure.

Brian's cousin is approved!! WOOHOO!! Such great news right?

March 2018-Pre transplant testing shows Brian has a heart valve that isn't working properly. After further testing it is found that the mitral valve has a calcium build up on it, not allowing it to close and pump properly. The Dr's at Cal Pacific Med Center (where the transplant will take place)decided the heart valve needs to be repaired or replaced before the kidney transplant can take place and it would need to be done whether he was having the transplant or not.  (the calcium build up is from the medication he has to take because of not having kidneys)

Dana has a very understanding employer but she has used all of her vacation time. In March there were 3 trip to San Francisco, 2 of which were overnight. Hotels in San Francisco are expensive, some offer a discount because he's a patient, bringing a nights stay to $200 a night and $23 for parking. April 16th - 23rd Brian and Dana will be in San Francisco for Brian's surgery that is scheduled for the 18th. Dana will have to take unpaid time off and with our help maybe we can take some of the stress of their shoulders knowing their bills will be paid. Please consider helping this amazing family who has been through so much.
