Brian Gauldin's Bone Marrow Transplant Fund

The Story

Brian was diagnosed with Leukemia (CML) nearly 3 years ago and since his truly amazing initial recovery, he had been stable with treatment up until recently. Most of you would never know he's been sick as he is forever positive, never complaining, and is always the one to help others in need. His strength, wit, and fun-loving nature are what all of you know of him. Unfortunately Brian's cancer has become resistant to his treatment. His doctors have told us that his only option is a bone marrow transplant. It's a long and difficult treatment but if it's successful, in time he may be cured! We are hoping there will be a perfect match soon and he can begin the long and difficult transplant process.

What's Next
When a match is found, Brian will need to be admitted to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL for a minimum of 4 weeks, then will have to be in a rented condo/apt no more than a few miles away from the hospital for the next 8-12 weeks with 24/7 care to get him healthy and safe enough to come back home.  He'll be on infection precautions for many months, and being watched closely for success of the transplant, he'll need to rest a lot and might not be back at work for quite awhile. He'll be on anti-rejection drugs and likely some others for several years and we're not sure what his insurance will pay. We know his medical insurance will help pay for inpatient treatment and hopefully some of his other treatments, but won't cover of the costs of lodging or any other care outside the hospital.
Lots of you know Peggy, and she is incredibly grateful she will be able to stay with him in the hospital (we weren't certain due to COVID) but she can't leave once Brian is admitted.  Her house calls practice will take a hiatus so she can focus on taking care of her #1 patient, her partner in crime, and the love of her life.

What You Can Do
Although he's never asked for help, we're asking for him.  Please give what you can, share this link to your networks, contacts, with friends, family, neighbors, and on social media. Most importantly, send your positivity, love, and prayers his way. If you know anything about this boy from Independence, MO, this Eagle Scout, this die hard Chiefs fan,  this adventurous and unwavering believer in happily ever after, this funny, smart, caring, and courageous guy, you know he will be OK.  He will face this scary and tough time with determination and a strong belief that good always wins.  Brian asks that you also please register on www.bethematch.org  as your Bone Marrow Donation could save someone's life.

Stay Tuned
We'll post updates often so that everyone can watch Brian's road to recovery together.  Your donation joins you with Brian's friends and loved ones as all we want is to give him the best chance we can.  Any gift will make a huge difference. We can't wait to share his success story as it unfolds!  #4histomorrow
