Brian Corbin Hope Fund

Dearest Friends, Family, Neighbors and Helpers,

The Corbin Family is coming to you with an urgent critical need:

On July 3rd, Brian Corbin, father to Frankie, son to Paul and Flo, brother to Chris, beloved teacher, friend to all and stranger to none, was admitted to intensive care due to multi-system organ failure. On July 5th, Brian was placed on life support and a moment to moment fight for his life ensued. Today he is breathing on his own for the first time in almost two weeks. One of Brian’s doctors described his extubation as a “miracle”, since many in his condition would never come off the ventilator. A miracle indeed, and now the real work begins. Brian needs a liver transplant to survive. He’ll remain in critical care and will undergo dialysis several times per week until his physicians can submit his case to a transplant committee.

The catch: Even if Brian’s body is strong enough to handle a transplant, he must be considered “financially viable." No committee will consider Brian's case until the financial criteria have been met. It’s hard to stomach talk of money when your loved one’s life is in the balance, but we have to talk about it. While we have fast-tracked applications for financial assistance, it will not be enough and it will not come fast enough. Brian's kidneys are failing and the risk of decompensation is high. There is no time to waste and yet there is no money to proceed.

The bottom line: The cost of care could top 1 million dollars in short order. IF we cannot prove financial viability in advance Brian will not get the transplant and he will not survive.

This situation is filled with “if” statements. Our family needs many miracles big and small if Brian is to survive and Frankie is to have her daddy's hand to hold through life. All of this feels too big for us, but none of this is too big for God. We believe God gave us a compassionate and generous community who are fiercely determined to help. With humility, we call on you to give. We graciously receive your loving gestures and ask that you consider a monetary contribution of any size, so we can take the financial “IF” out of Brian’s delicate equation. Because, IF Brian can survive this, he must be afforded the opportunity.

The truth is, a week ago, this would have been a very different plea, because hope was scarce.  But today, Brian is breathing and we have never felt so much hope. May you feel it too. May it inspire you. Whatever your spiritual beliefs are, perhaps you share with us the belief that we are all connected as part of something greater than ourselves and greater than the sum of us too. If this is true, then your gift in support of Brian’s life-saving transplant is  truly a gift in support of the highest good of all.

Our hearts are full of gratitude that you’ve read this far, that we have family and friends who are worth fighting for, and for the army of angels at Seton Williamson Round Rock who work tirelessly on Brian’s behalf. Know that if we are called, we will fight for you too.

Lovingly on behalf of the The Corbin Family,

Emily Corbin
