Brian Caldwell's post surgery medical costs
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Cathie Caldwell and I'm raising money for my brother Brian's emergency open heart surgery medical bills. Brian, who is 47 years old, lives in Kansas City with his wife, Sahra, and works in IT. Together they have sons Sully, age 10, and Dakota, age 20 months. On Sunday, Dec 4, 2022, Brian was rushed to the ER due to unexplained chest pain due to the advice of his sister, Liz, who is a nurse. The ER visit resulted in a chest scan revealing he had a tear on his ascending aorta, requiring emergency open heart surgery. We have since found out how lucky Brian is: most don't survive long enough to make it to surgery and those who do, rarely survive the surgery. Ten days later, Brian ran into complications and they had to open him up again to remove a softball-sized blood clot in his chest cavity. This sent him back to the ICU for a second time, restarting the recovery process. Brian luckily has some short-term disability coverage and Sahra will be taking unpaid FMLA after she uses her sick time. Though they have health insurance, we are expecting substantial uncovered medical expenses, which are largely unknown at this time. Brian was released from the hospital on December 28 (a total of 24 days) and the recovery has been rough but he's making good progress. He will continue his recovery with cardiac rehabilitation and continuous monitoring with a team of medical specialists from various specialties related to his health condition. I am hoping to help them cover the medical bills so they can avoid catastrophic debt and focus on his recovery. Anything helps. Thank you!
