A little help from my friends

A few months ago my cane corso, Etta James, stopped eating.  She would lie in the corner trembling and looked very out of it.

I took her to the vet that was a few blocks from my house.  On our walk to the vet, she barely made it there.  She was trembling and foaming at the mouth.  I thought she was going to pass out and I'd have to carry this 90 lb dog.  She had lost 25 lb from not eating.  When we got to the vet, she collapsed on the waiting room floor.  The vet came out to check on her and said I had a very sick dog and they would run x-ray and blood work on her right away to see what was wrong.  The x-ray revealed that she had a cyst in her uterus the size of a chihuahua.  The vet gave me two options: put her down or get her surgery that day or else she was going to die.  I asked her how much the surgery was going to cost and the amount was pretty much all I had left in my bank account.  After weighing the options of being broke or losing a friend, I had chose to put her down.  I had been in financial burden before and it was tough.

The vet had left me in the check up room with Etta to say good bye.  I sat there for 20 minutes telling her how lucky I was to get a dog like her and how sorry I was that I wasn't the best owner but she was the best dog.  All the while my phone was blowing up from calls and texts from family and friends telling me not to put her down.  After 20 minutes, I walked out of the check up room and told the vet, "fuck it, let's do the surgery".  In the words of my friend Lauren, who helped me out that day tremendously, "money comes and goes".

I called my friend Lauren to come help me and we raced up to a clinic in NE Philly and did the surgery.  I'm happy to report that it was a complete success and Etta is a brand new puppy.  She's back to running around and loves having her belly rubbbed from female visitors.

As a result of the cost of the surgery, I'm about a month and a half behind on all my bills and can't seem to catch.  I feel really bad about asking for help from my friends but I'm hoping that this is what is great about this online community.  That a person in need can reach out to all their friends at once.  I've always tried to support all my friend's charity events and now it is I that need the help.  Thank you everyone in advance for listening to my story and helping out!
