As some of you may know, Brett was diagnosed with a brain tumor on July 9th, 2020.
He started having headaches about 2 years ago, which have progressively gotten worse until now. He went to see his family Dr. a couple of times, tried a couple different medications that he was given but didn’t like the way they made him feel. From there he went back to his family Dr. and was referred to a neurologist, who then sent him for a CT Scan on July 9th, 2020. They discovered a benign brain tumor centrally located in his head. He was then referred to a couple different neurosurgeons and ultimately decided to go with Dr. Michael Cusimano out of St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, On.
After consulting with Dr. Cusimano, Brett felt like this was the right move. He and his wife, Jessica will be travelling to Toronto sometime in the next 4-6 weeks, where he will have a very serious, all-day surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible. He will then have to spend some time in the ICU and possibly upwards of a month in the hospital/Toronto for recovery, depending on when he can fly again.
He will then have to travel back to Toronto or to Winnipeg in 3-6 months (depending on how he heals and how fast the tumor is growing) to have another procedure/treatment (Gamma Knife Radiation) done to try and "zap" the remaining bit of the tumor to stop it from growing.
With all of that comes the extra costs of travelling, meals, hotels, etc. all while not being able to work. Brett will have a long road ahead of him and there are still a lot of unknowns at this point.
Anyone who knows my brother, knows that he has the BIGGEST heart and would give the shirt off his back to a complete stranger. IF you are able to help out financially you can donate here. We also understand that not everyone is able to contribute financially and that’s ok!!! Please keep Brett in your thoughts and prayers as he continues on this scary, unknown journey.
